Blue Iris Review
Blue Iris is a video surveillance application that offers users an easy-to-use interface to remotely access multiple cameras and control them via their computer. The program also offers a variety of analytics tools for monitoring camera activity and providing alerts.
The software can be used with a wide range of different camera models including IP cameras, webcams and even DVR/CCTV based systems. It can be used to monitor homes, businesses or other property and provides a variety of useful features such as continuous loop recording, scheduling and advanced motion/audio detection recording with the ability to send alerts via email, instant message or phone call.
Depending on the amount of storage space required, it is recommended that users have adequate hard disk space and/or network-attached storage (NAS). The program also requires a high-performance processor with sufficient processing power to handle video encoding/decoding tasks. A dedicated graphics card is also useful in improving overall performance.
A unique feature of Blue Iris is its trigger functionality which allows users to set up alarms based on the sensor's activity. This is especially helpful for those who wish to record only certain events. Triggers can be based on heat, sound or movement and can trigger recordings to start, stop or be delayed. When an event occurs, the user can select whether to receive an alert via loudspeaker, email, instant message or a voice phone call.
Users can remotely connect to their camera system using a web browser on any device with an Internet connection. This means there is no need to insecurely open individual cameras over a public portal and passwords are never sent in plain text.
